I'VE BEEN CLEANING OUT MY OLD EMAIL AND THOUGHT THESE MIGHT ENLIGHTEN THOSE THAT HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A DEVASTATING DISEASE ALZHEIMER'S REALLY IS.

My daughter Katie sent this email out to her siblings on Nov.5, 2011-

"I just left mom's house and wanted to let everyone know how dad is doing. His memory is slipping fast. Mom was just explaining to him that he is married to her and they have 9 kids. He didn't remember. He said that he used to have a girlfriend named Mary Lee. He didn't know Rob, Mak or Beau either (Katie's husband and children). I mentioned to dad he used to call Rob, Butthead. He giggled and said "oh yeah I remember now." But I don't think he did. He has been very emotional lately too. It would be nice if you stop by and give dad a kiss and hug and hope he remembers you!!"

I responded with - I just put your Dad to bed for the night and he said he is so happy he is starting to remember (his Mom,Dad and Sister Donna, that his parents taught music and Butthead!- he's a nice guy! He got a kick out of Rob teasing him and mentioned his name again when he went to bed so he did remember that. I figured this was a good time to go to bed even if it was a little early, as he was very happy - not like earlier when he was so troubled and scared and not knowing who he was or where he was.
My husband of 47 years lost his battle with this Horrible Mind Stealing Disease 6 months later on May 4, 2012.
I tried to find items to promote awareness and gain donations to find a cure for this HORRIBLE, MEMORY STEALING and HUMBLING DISEASE but was unable to find much out there. So, with a lot of anger behind me and wanting to do something about fighting back, no matter how small, I became a woman on a mission and decided to have some items printed up with the logo "FORGET ME NOT" - GIVE YOUR LOVED ONE A HUG WHILE THEY STILL KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

Thank you for helping to find a cure for this terrible disease which my husband lost his battle against. I cannot really talk about George's last year and especially the last few months but it is deeply imbedded in my heart and soul - The WALK and Fundraising helps ease the sadness and hopefuly will help to find a cure.
This is my small way or fighting back and coping.
